Everything that Kalgoorlie is famous for pales in comparison to the beauty of the landscape that surrounds the town. So many tourists visit the mining town, marvel at the touristy attractions, and then go home. What a shame.

The ground is something different. You’ll never walk on earth that looks quite like it. The smooth surface cracks and pulls apart in the hot dry summer. Unusual plants rise above it.

Walk enough and you will find the remains of old gold mines. Can you imagine digging a hole like this and climbing in? Can you still imagine it if it was as deep as a high rise office tower?

An absolutely magical place. Can’t wait to get back.
