I have better memories of Smiths Beach than any other beach in WA. Located outside of a resort near the town of Yallingup, the amazingly clean water and white sand is overlooked by a rugged hilly coastline. The water is so clean you could almost be fooled into thinking it was freshwater. The taste is extremely mild, the waves crash just perfectly, and there is a Lamont’s restaurant within walking distance… seriously good.

Northern Rocks

While driving out of Yallingup Beach one day, I noticed a view of Smiths Beach from the north that looked absolutely beautiful. I stopped to look, and it was so good I decided to take a walk down to the coastal rocks.

The swell was larger that most days, and the show it displayed on the rocks was awesome.

As I approached the beach, I became more aware of the distinct lack of people enjoying the beach on such a beautiful day.

I decided that I was going to have to make up for that. So all my cameras were left on the beach as I entered the water and spent some time jumping through the large sets of waves.

On the way back to the car, I scratched my legs a bit on some of the coastal shrub. Salt water is what that needed, I thought. So to the south end by the resort is where I went. A day full of swimming is my idea of a good day.
