Superpit at night

Getting a chance to look down on the Kalgoorlie Super Pit at night was an experience I will not forget.

It begins with an immediate overwhelming flood of details. Lights flashing, some moving around in the darkness. But what really surprises you is the noise. There is so much noise. Echos of activity that you can’t really understand fill your consciousness.

I photographed the scene with a two minute long exposure. This gave me an incredible image with so much more than the human eye could see. The length also lead to the trailing of vehicle lights as they made their way up and down the ramps.
