Whenever there is a storm washing over Bunbury, Rocky Point at Back Beach is the place to be. The volcanic basalt rocks set the scene for a dramatic clash of wild waves and the ever shifting shape of the beach.
The Basalt changes appearance over the months of the year as the sand is shaped and moved around it. At times you will find beautiful tidal pools on the beach. Occasionally a deep trench through the rock will be revealed, and then next time you visit it will be buried beneath meters of soft white sand. It’s the way the beach changes that keep me coming back.
As the ocean crashes into and then washes up over the rock, water slowly drains away. Cascades appear everywhere and make it a wonderful place for a photographer.
